In March 2009, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe confirmed in a remarkable recommendation "encouraging the participation of children in decisions that affect them: „the participation is a fundamental right of the citizen and the children are citizens."
Benin has signed the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) on 3 August 1990.
We will deal in this workshop with the right to "democratic participation", which refers to Article 12 of the CRC. This concept of participation by UNICEF (United Nations Children's Emergency Fund) says, "that adults share with them the management, power, decision-making and information."
To be authentic and effective, it is about a radical change in the way of thinking and behaving adult. This must include children and their abilities and do not exclude. You can not be the only one that define the world; they have to accept that the children contribute to building a world in which they want to live.
Focus of the workshop will be the action: we will try to learn in different arrangements with the participants.
